Dallas North Tollway extension opens over U.S. 380
A new bridge expected to help meet future traffic demands and ease congestion in Frisco, Prosper and Celina opened in Collin County.
The North Texas Tollway Authority opened the extension, part of the Dallas North Tollway over U.S. 380, and the first part of a Phase 4 project for Collin and Denton counties. The southbound entrance opened Feb. 20 and the northbound lane opened March 11, according to Michael Rey, media relations manager with NTTA.
“This is an important milestone in the northern expansion of the Dallas North Tollway,” said Elizabeth Mow, NTTA Assistant Executive Director of Infrastructure in a press release. “The DNT is a critical route, creating economic development opportunities for Frisco, Prosper and Celina and will stimulate growth for decades to come.”
The bridge extends the tollway into Prosper, a town with a population of 30,174, according to 2020 census data. The Phase 4 project will eventually extend Dallas North Tollway main lanes to the Grayson County line.
Construction began in 2020, and the project is part of NTTA’s FY2022-FY2026 Capital Plan, which includes the estimated project cost of $12.9 million. Total project costs were estimated at $90.3 million, according to NTTA.
NTTA’s capital plan has reinvested in improvement and expansion projects which also include President George Bush Turnpike and the Sam Rayburn Tollway, according to the release.
